Overview and Challenges

In 2022, while Infinidat underwent a comprehensive re-branding initiative, its application ecosystem, including the InfiniBox management system, remained untouched. As the Design UI/UX Lead, I collaborated with my product team to initiate a UI makeover for the InfiniBox GUI. Our main objective was to align the system’s interface with the company’s refreshed branding, which involved implementing a new color palette and typography. Given Infinidat’s fast-paced environment, the project’s focus quickly shifted from improving usability to redesigning the UI to match the new brand identity.

The InfiniBox UI rebranding project presented several challenges:

1. Complex System Architecture: InfiniBox is a powerful storage solution with an intricate and feature-rich GUI. Adapting the design to align with the new branding while maintaining its functionality posed a significant challenge.

2. Brand Consistency vs. Usability: Balancing the need for a consistent brand experience with the usability requirements of a professional-grade management system was critical. The updated color palette and typography had to enhance the user experience without compromising clarity or accessibility.

3. Time Constraints: As a dynamic and fast-paced company, we were working under tight deadlines. This meant the redesign process had to be swift, without sacrificing the quality or consistency of the interface.

4. Collaboration Across Teams: The rebranding involved multiple teams, from marketing to product management. Ensuring alignment across these teams in terms of vision, technical feasibility, and design standards required constant coordination.

Design approach and process

1. Research and Analysis: I started by conducting a deep examination of the existing UI to identify key areas that needed improvement, especially in terms of how the new branding elements would interact with the current interface. Our product team also gathered feedback from users and internal stakeholders to prioritize usability enhancements.

2. Adopting the New Style Guide: A key aspect of the redesign was integrating Infinidat’s new style guide while addressing specific UI requirements. This involved updating UI components with the new color palette, and inventing additional colors to meet functionality needs that the standard palette couldn't address. We also applied the updated typography and introduced a newly designed icon library. Maintaining consistency with the brand’s visual identity across the entire interface was a top priority, ensuring a cohesive and modern look without compromising usability.

3. UI Redesign and Prototyping: With the style guide in hand, I began creating mockups and prototypes for key screens in the InfiniBox management system. I adopted a modular approach to redesign the system, starting with core components such as navigation, dashboards, and data visualization elements.

Results

The InfiniBox GUI rebranding was an ongoing effort to align the product’s user interface with Infinidat’s updated brand identity. Although I am no longer working directly at Infinidat, I continue to collaborate with the company as an external partner to see the rebranding project through to completion. This project has underscored the importance of balancing aesthetic and functional design in enterprise systems while maintaining brand consistency. The new InfiniBox UI remains an evolving process that will ultimately deliver an enhanced user experience aligned with Infinidat’s future vision.
